Not Just History…

In class we started a new unit of inquiry about history. Not the class but actual history like what is the truth? How do we know what has happened in the past? That’s about how we can tell what has happened and what has not. How do we know if the accounts of history are accurate? That’s about if its completely true or if some of it is made up. We need to know that peoples and places have histories that can be uncovered and interpreted through a variety of sources. That’s our central idea and it’s about how we can all uncover what has really happened and how we can understand it.

We are learning about sources people use to inquire into the past, ways to understand sources, and the advantages and limits of various forms of information.

In class we listened to two songs about history. One of them was called We Didn’t Start The Fire and the other one was called Cherokee People. We also looked at artifacts and played a game where we wrote down what the artifacts were, where they came from, and how old they were. To kick of this unit we did posters with these questions in them, the we passed them round the class and we shared our answers.

Here is a link to a website about history: http://www.allabouthistory.org/

We had to put a photo about history in this post so here it is! These are artifacts!Artifacts_(front)

Now you’ve seen artifacts how about this, you give me the definition on artifacts please leave your blog address in the comment so I can write a different comment back so I can tell you if your right or wrong. Later I might write on my blog when it’s over if you’re wrong of right!
